WEST AUSTRALIAN VHF GROUP (INC) Minutes of 526th General Meeting, Monday January 27th, 2003 Held Wireless Hill Meeting Room, Applecross President, Alan VK6ZWZ, opened the meeting at 2000. Apologies: Terry 6TRG, Tom 6ZAF, Bob 6ZFY, Terry 6ZLT. MINUTES: The minutes of the November meeting were read and accepted. (6ZKO/6ZCR). Business arising: None. CORRESPONDENCE: Out: To the City of Melville concerning Group input to future planning for the Museum and Wireless Hill site. REPORTS: Treasurer: No report in the absence of the Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer. Bulletin: Ben 6TLA advised that the Bulletin would be produced this week. Beacons: Wal 6KZ reported that:- * VK6RTW Albany had been heard in both Perth and VK5 on 144.564 MHz. * VK6RSW Augusta had been heard in Perth on all three frequencies to 23cm. * Work continues on the repackaging of the VK6RBS 10GHz transmitter. The existing 1296 MHz beacon tx had been heard in Perth. * VK6RPH, VK6RSX, VK6RBU and VK6VF are operational. * Work continues on the VK6RST project. Most hardware is near completion and transmitters have been tested. A tentative installation window has been set for 23/24th April. The new site lessee, Tim Smith has been contacted and has indicated his cooperation and offered help with the project. Volunteers are required for help with the installation, in particular transport of the 70cm yagis to the site. Unusual VHF Activity: (1) Wal 6KZ reported on contacts with VK5 and VK3 on 144 MHz in December and again in January when Phil 6ZKO alerted others to another opening to VK5. The Esperance beacon was a good indicator. (2) 50 MHz sporadic E was in evidence over December/January with contacts to VK6JQ in Broome and to all other VK call areas and ZL. VK6RSX/B Dampier had been frequently heard at S9. GENERAL BUSINESS: Jack 6KDX reported that the NCRG are still looking for new meeting and shack premises following the Government decision to sell off Carine TAFE. Some options are being examined. The meeting closed at 2035, to be followed by a "Round Table Discussion" moderated by Wal 6KZ.
